2015年考研英语句子翻译精练（七）

　考研英语翻译最重要的是把握句子机构，直击重点翻译。把也就是说把句子的结构划分清楚，然后重难点翻译捋清，整个句子就可以通顺的翻译出来，再加以渲染和润色即可。新东方在线小编奉上一些句子翻译练习，附有解说，希望广大考生能够通过这些例子提高自身翻译技巧

　　2015年考研英语翻译精练（七）

　　1、In the motorized wheelchair,a boyish face dimly illuminated by a glowing computer screen attached to the left armrest,is Stephen William Hawking,46,one of the world's greatest theoretical physicists.

　　参考答案:

　　要点：这是一个主谓倒装句，对“主语+系词+表语”结构做了颠倒。主语是Stephen William Hawking。“46,one of the world's greatest theoretical physicists”为主语的同位语。in the motorized wheelchair是句子的表语(注意不是地点状语)。a boyish face dimly illuminated by a glowing computer screen是独立主格结构，作状语，表伴随。attached to the left armrest为过去分词短语，作定语，修饰a glowing computer screen。主谓倒装时，可按照原主谓顺序进行。

　　译文：46岁的斯蒂芬.威廉.霍金坐在机动轮椅里，他是世界上最伟大的理论物理学家之一。固定在轮椅左扶手上那一闪一闪的计算机屏幕微微地照亮了他孩子般地脸。

　　2、The arrival of millions of unassimilated immigrants is requiring America to abandon the old notion of a melting pot and turn itself instead into a "gorgeous mosaic" in which distinctive ethnic groups still manage to make a whole.

　　参考答案:

　　要点：本句是长句而非难句，因为句子中没有任何复杂结构。句子的句架是The arrival of millions of unassimilated immigrants is requiring America to...and turn itself instead into...。which引导定语从句修饰先行词a "gorgeous mosaic"。

　　译文：数百万未被同化的移民的到来要求美国放弃熔炉的旧观念，并把自己转化成一件努力将不同的种族融合在一起的“璀璨的镶嵌艺术品”。

　　3、The medical waste that has fouled beaches in the New York region at the peak of the summer season has taken its toll on business all along the shore, driving vacationers away both from beaches that have been closed and from those that have remained open.

　　参考答案:

　　要点：本句主要结构是the medical waste...has taken its toll...。that...season引导定语从句，修饰medical waste。at the peak of the summer season作状语，表时间。driving...是现在分词作状语，表结果。that have been closed和that have remained open是定语从句，分别修饰beaches和those。those代替beaches。

　　译文：医疗用品生产厂家的废弃物污染了纽约地区的海滨。时值盛夏，一些海滨浴场关闭，而仍然开放的一些海滨浴场也门可罗雀，大批度假者离此而去，这使得海滨地区的商业蒙受严重损失。

　　4、We are obliged to grow up in skepticism, requiring proofs for every assertion about nature, and there is no way out except to move ahead and plug away, hoping for comprehension in the future but living in a condition of intellectual instability for the long time.

　　参考答案:

　　要点：assertion意思是“声称，宣言”。way out意思是“办法，出路”。plug away意思是“努力地干”。此句是并列复合句。主句是We are obliged to grow up in skepticism,and there is no way out except to move ahead and plug away。requiring是现在分词，作grow up的伴随状语。hoping和living也是现在分词，作to move ahead and plug away的伴随状语。因为句法复杂，翻译时不能采取顺序法，而要用综合法。

　　译文：我们只得带着疑问长大成人，要给每一个有关自然界的结论提供证据。我们企望着将来能够更多的了解大自然，可又长期处在领悟(或理解力)不稳定的状态中，因此，除了继续研究和顽强探索，别无出路。

　　5、A great leader must have a certain irrational quality, a stubborn refusal to face facts, infectious optimism, the ability to convince us that all is not lost even when we're afraid it is.

　　参考答案:

　　要点：a certain irrational quality, a stubborn refusal...,infectious optimism, the ability...是并列的名词短语，都作have的宾语。that从句作convince的直接宾语。when we're afraid it is 是时间状语从句，it is 后面省略了表语lost。

　　译文：一个伟大的领袖必须有某种非理性的特点，他坚决拒绝面对现实，他的乐观精神富有感染力，即使在我们担心一切都已经失去的时候，他也有能力使我们确信事实并非如此。
