2016考研英语阅读长难句实例分析（6）

考研英语长难句是让很多考生头疼的一大难题，对于长难句的结构分析、主旨把握及语义提炼想到一步位并不容易，这需要大家熟练掌握语法的同时，平时多练习和总结才行。下面新东方在线就和大家一起通过实例练习及解析来一步步提升长难句的解读能力。

2016考研英语阅读长难句实例分析（6）

　　1、Over the years, tools and technology themselvesas a source of fundamental innovation havelargely been ignored by historians and philosophersof science.

　　【分析】

　　简单句。句子主干为tools and technology…have beenignored。翻译时，状语over the years可译于句首，也可译于主语之后，谓语之前。

　　【点拨】

　　largely “在很大程度上;主要地;大部分”。

　　【译文】

　　工具和技术本身作为根本性创新的源泉多年来在很大程度上被科学史学家和科学思想家们忽视了。

　　2、Galileo's greatest glory was that in 1609 he was the first person to turn the newly inventedtelescope on the heavens to prove that the planets revolve around the sun rather than aroundthe Earth.

　　【分析】

　　多重复合句。句子主干为Galieo's greatest glory was that…，that引导表语从句。表语从句主干为hewas the first person;不定式结构to turn…作后置定语修饰 person;to prove…为目的状语，后跟that引导的宾语从句作prove的宾语。宾语从句中使用了短语rather than“而不是”。翻译时，由于the first person的后置定语较长，可翻译为独立的句子，把the first译作汉语的状语“第一个”person省略不译。that引导的宾语从句顺译。

　　【点拨】

　　1、glory“光荣，荣誉;美丽，壮丽;绘人荣耀的事”，本句中可译为“光辉的业绩”。2、revolve“旋转，转动;细想”。

　　【译文】

　　伽里略最光辉的业绩在于他在1609年第一个把新发明的望远镜对准天空，以证实行星是围绕太阳旋转而不是围绕地球。

　　3、Science moves forward, they say, not so muchthrough the insights of great men of genius asbecause of more ordinary things like improvedtechniques and tools.

　　【分析】

　　简单句。句子的主语是science,谓语是moves forward,they say是插入语，后面的成分均是方式状语。方式状语中使用了 not so much…as…“与其说是…，不如说是…”结构;like improved techniques and tools 作 ordinary things的后置定语。翻译时，插入语they say 可置于句首，they指代“新学派科学家”;由于主句Science moves forward较短，可译为名词性结构“科学的发展”，作句子主语，而把方式状语引导词through和because of译为动词“源于”，作句子谓语;后置定语likeimproved techniques and tools 前置译。

　　【点拨】

　　insight“洞察力，见识;领悟，顿悟”，本句中译为 “真知灼识”。

　　【译文】

　　他们(新学派科学家们)说，科学的发展与其说源于天才伟人的真知灼识，不如说源于改进了的技术和工具等等更为普通的东西。

　　4、"In short"，a leader of the new school contends, "the scientific revolution, as we call it, waslargely the improvement and invention and use of a series of instruments that expanded thereach of science in innumerable directions. "

　　【分析】

　　句子主语为a leader of the new school，谓语为contends，宾语为引号里面的内容。宾语部分的主干为the scientific revolution …was the improvement and invention and use of a series ofinstruments;as we call it 为插入语，后面that引导的定语从句修饰先行词the improvement andinvention and use of a series of instruments。翻译时，主谓部分提前，“In short”应置于谓语之后，与后面的宾语成分译在一起;插入语as we call it可译为形容词结构 “我们所谓的”;定语从句可采用重复先行词的方法单独翻译成句。

　　【点拨】

　　1、reach作名词时意为“(手、能力、智力、影响等)可及之范围”，本句中指科学发展的范围。 2、innumerable“无数的，数不清的”。

　　【译文】

　　新学派的一位领袖人物坚持说：简而言之，我们所谓的科学革命，主要是指一系列器具的改进、发明和使用，这些改进、发明和使用使科学发展的范围无所不及。
