2016考研英语阅读长难句实例分析（47）

　　1. All in all, this clearly seems to be a market inwhich big retailers could profitably apply theirgigantic scale, existing infrastructure, and provenskills in the management of product ranges,logistics and marketing intelligence.

　　【分析】复合句。句子主干为 this clearly seems to be amarket。in which 引导定语从句修饰 market;从句中主语为 big retailers，谓语为 could profitably apply，宾语为三个并列成分;their gigantic scale, existinginfrastructure 和 proven skills。in the management of...作 proven skills 的后置定语。

　　【译文】总之，很显然，在这一市场中大的零售商可以利用庞大的规模、现有的基础设施以及在产品范围、物流、营销情报方面出色的管理技能而获利。

　　2. Big retailers must understand these differences before they can identify the segments ofEuropean wholesaling in which their particular abilities might unseat smaller but entrenchedcompetitors.

　　【分析】多重复合句。句子主干为 Big retailers must understand these differences。before 引导时间状语从句，其中又包含 which 引导的定语从句修饰 the segments of European wholesaling。

　　【译文】大型零售商必须了解这些差异，之后才能够识别欧洲的批发行业，它们独特的能力也许会在这一行业中打败规模较小但牢固占有市场的竞争对手。

　　【点拨】1) unseat“使坠马;革除(职位);使失去资格”，本句中是“打败，使失去地位”的意思。2)entrenched 本句中意为“固守的，牢固占有市场的”。

　　3. However，none of these requirements shoulddeter large retailers (and even some large foodproducers and existing wholesalers) from tryingtheir hand, for those that master the intricacies ofwholesaling in Europe stand to reap considerablegains.

　　【分析】多重复合句。句子主干为 none of these requirements should deter largeretailers...from...。括号内的部分是对宾语 large retailers 的补充。for 引导原因状语从句，其主干为those...stand to reap considerable gains。that 引导的定语从句修饰 those。

　　【译文】然而，所有这些要求丝毫不能阻止大型零售商(甚至一些大型食品生产商和现有的批发商)一试身手，因为那些精通欧洲批发业复杂细节的零售商正准备收获可观的利润。

　　4. Demand comes mainly from two sources: independent mom-and-pop grocery stores,which, unlike large retail chains are too small to buy straight from producers and food serviceoperators that cater to consumers when they don't eat at home.

　　【分析】多重复合句。句子主干为 Demand comes mainly from two sources。冒号后的部分列举 twosources：一是 independent mom-and-pop grocery stores，二是 food service operators，两者分别由 which 和 that 引导的定语从句修饰。which 从句中使用了too...to“太...以至于不能”句型，作比较状语，that 从句中又包含一个 when 引导的时间状语从句。

　　【译文】需求主要来自两个方面：一是独立经营的夫妻杂货店，它们不同于大型零售连锁店，这种夫妻店因规模太小无法从生产商那里直购;二是向在外就餐的顾客提供饮食服务的经营机构。

　　【点拨】1)mom-and-pop“夫妻经营的”。2)cater to“迎合;款待;供应伙食”，结合语境，本句中是“供应伙食”的意思。

　　【临摹】大学应该考虑开设迎合学生兴趣和需要的课程。
