2016考研英语阅读长难句实例分析（64）

2016考研英语阅读长难句实例分析（64）

　　1. It's not obvious how the capacity to visualizeobjects and to figure out numerical patterns suitsone to answer questions that have eluded some ofthe best poets and philosophers.

　　【分析】复合句。主句主干为主系表结构;It's notobvious how...。it 是形式主语，真正的主语是 how 引导的主语从句。在主语从句中，主语是 the capacity;tovisualize objects 和 to figure out numerical patterns是其后置定语;谓语是 suits;宾语是 one;to answer questions...为宾语补足语，其中 that 引导定语从句修饰 questions。

　　【译文】还没搞清楚的是，那种想象物体和计算数字模式的能力，如何让人能够回答连一些最好的诗人和哲学家都唯恐避之不及的问题。

　　2. Superhigh scores like vos Savant's are no longer possible, because scoring is now based on astatistical population distribution among age peers, rather than simply dividing the mentalage by the chronological age and multiplying by 100.

　　【分析】复合句。主句主干为 Superhigh scores are no longer possible。介词短语 like vos Savant's作 Superhigh scores 的后置定语;because 引导原因状语从句。

　　【译文】像冯·莎凡那样的超高分也不会再出现了，因为现在的评分以同龄人的人口分布统计数字为基础，而不仅仅是用智力年龄除以生理年龄再乘以100.

　　3. In this article "How Intelligent is IntelligenceTesting?", Sternberg notes that traditional testsbest assess analytical and verbal skills but fail tomeasure creativity and practical knowledge,components also critical to problem solving and lifesuccess.

　　【分析】复合句。Sternberg notes that...;此时 that 引导宾语从句，从句又由 but 连接的两个分句构成，but 后省略了 traditional tests; components also...作creativity and practical knowledge 的同位语，起补充说明的作用。句首引号内的书名也是同位语，补充说明。

　　【译文】斯德伯格在他的文章《智力测试有多高明》中指出，传统测试很好地评估了分析和语言能力，但是却没有评估创造力和实践知识，而后者对解决问题和在生活中取得成功至关重要。

　　【点拨】1) note 既可以作名词，也可以作动词，意义较多;在本句中，该词意为“指出，表明”。2) assess意为“评估，评定”，其名词是 assessment。

　　4. Research has found that IQ predicted leadership skills when the tests were given underlow-stress conditions, but under high-stress conditions, IQ was negatively correlated withleadership—that is , it predicted the opposite.

　　【分析】多重复合句。主句主干为 Research has found that...;此时 that 引导宾语从句。该宾语从句又是由 but 连接的两个并列句组成。when 引导时间状语从句;破折号后的内容解释说明 but 后的分句。

　　【译文】研究表明智商测试在压力小的环境下进行时，他能预见领导能力;而当智商测试在压力大的环境下进行时，智商与领导能力负相关——也就是说，它预测出的领导能力与实际情况正好相反。

　　【点拨】1) under...condition 意为“在...条件下”。2) correlate with 意为“把...与...联系起来，找出一一对应的关系”。
