2016考研英语阅读长难句实例分析（94）

　　1. It's not obvious how the capacity objects and to figure out numerical patterns suits one to answer questions that have eluded some of the best poets and philosophers.

　　【分析】复合句。主句主干为主系表结构:It's not obvious how…。it是形式主语,真正的主语是how引导的主语从句。在主语从句中，主语是the capacity; to visualize objects 和 to figure out numerical patterns 是其后置定语;谓语是suits;宾语one; to answer questions…为宾语补足语，其中that引导的定语从句修饰questions。

　　【译文】还没搞清楚的是，那种想象物体和计算数字模式的能力，如何让人能够回答连一些最好的诗人和哲学家都唯恐避之不及的问题。

　　2. Superhigh scores like vos Savant's are no longer possible because scoring is now based on statistical population distribution among age peers, rather than simply dividing the mental age by the chronological age and multiplying by 100.

　　【分析】复合句。主句主干为Superhigh scores are no longer possible。介词短语 like vos Savant's 作 Superhigh scores的后置定语;because引导原因状语从句。

　　【译文】像冯·莎凡那样的超高分也不会再出现了，因为现在的评分以同龄人的人口分布统计数字为基础,而不仅仅是用智力年龄除以生理年龄再乘以100。

　　3. In his article "How Intelligent is Intelligence Testing?", Sternberg notes that traditional tests best assess analytical and verbal skills but fail to measure creativity and practical knowledge, components also critical to problem solving and life success.

　　【分析】复合句。Sternberg notes that…;此时that引导宾语从句,从句又由but连接的两个分句构成,but后省略了 traditional test;components also …作 creativity and practical knowledge的同位语，起补充说明的作用。句首引号内的书名也是同位语,补充说明his article。

　　【译文】斯德伯格在他的文章《智力测试有多高明》中指出,传统测试很好地评估了分析和语言能力。但是却没有评估创造力和实践知识,而后者对解决问题和在生活中取得成功至关重要。

　　【点拨】note既可以作名词，也可以作动词，意义较多;在本句中，该词意为“指出，表明”。

　　4. Research has found that IQ predicted leadership skills when the tests were given under low-stress conditions, but under high-stress conditions, IQ was negatively correlated with leadership-that is, it predicted the opposite.

　　【分析】多重复合句。.主句主干为Research has found that…;此时that引导宾语从句。该宾语从句又是由 but连接的两个并列句组成。when引导时间状语从句;破折号后的内容解释说明but后的分句。

　　【译文】研究表明智商测试在压力小的环境下进行时，它能预见领导能力;而当智商测试在压力大的环境下进行时.智商与领导能力负相关——也就是说，它预测出的领导能力与实际情况正好相反。

　　【点拨】under...condition意为“在···条件下”。
