1956年10月生于江苏南京，1979年毕业于宁夏医学院医疗系, 1985年获生理学硕士学位，1992年赴荷兰留学，1996年获荷兰Amsterdam 大学博士学位，1996-1998荷兰皇家科学院脑研究所博士后。自1995年以来共发表论文40余篇，其中1995年以第一作者在Nature上发表论文被“探索”杂志评为1995年世界100项重大科学发现之一，2002年关于老年性痴呆的研究成果获安徽省科学技术一等奖。现为神经生物学与生物物理学系系主任，兼任中国科学神经科学会常务理事，中国药理学会抗衰老和痴呆专业委员会副主任委员。
