　　习近平指出，在95年波澜壮阔的历史进程中，中国共产党为中华民族作出了伟大历史贡献。习近平强调，这个伟大历史贡献，就是我们党团结带领中国人民(our Party has united with and led the Chinese people)进行28年浴血奋战，打败日本帝国主义(defeat Japanese imperialist aggressors)，推翻国民党反动统治(overthrow the reactionary Kuomintang rule)，完成新民主主义革命(New-Democratic Revolution)，建立了中华人民共和国(establish the People's Republic of China)。这一伟大历史贡献的意义在于，彻底结束了旧中国半殖民地半封建社会的历史(the history of old China being a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society was brought to an end once and for all)，彻底结束了旧中国一盘散沙的局面，彻底废除了列强强加给中国的不平等条约和帝国主义在中国的一切特权(the unequal treaties imposed on China by imperialist powers and all the privileges they had in China were abolished)，实现了中国从几千年封建专制政治向人民民主的伟大飞跃。

　　习近平强调，马克思主义是我们立党立国的根本指导思想(the fundamental guiding theory for both the Party and the country)。背离或放弃马克思主义(deviate from or abandon Marxism)，我们党就会失去灵魂、迷失方向(our Party would lose its soul and direction)。在坚持马克思主义指导地位这一根本问题上，我们必须坚定不移，任何时候任何情况下都不能有丝毫动摇。

　　习近平强调，全党要坚定道路自信、理论自信、制度自信、文化自信。当今世界，要说哪个政党、哪个国家、哪个民族能够自信的话，那中国共产党、中华人民共和国、中华民族是最有理由自信的。中国共产党人和中国人民完全有信心为人类对更好社会制度的探索提供中国方案(CPC members and the Chinese people are fully confident of providing a Chinese solution to mankind's exploration of better social systems)。
