When weuse the word “love”, we do not simply mean anattraction to a person of the opposite sex, which is avery narrow definition of the word. The picture below illustrates the realmeaning of love, by stressing the fact thatlove is emotional strength, which can support us nomatter how dark the world around us becomes. As a matter of fact, throughouthistory people of many different cultures have regarded love as the most sublime of human emotions.

As anillustration of the power of love, we should remember howthe Chinese people of all nationalities respond to the call to help the victimsof the deadly earthquake in Sichuan Province. Although theirincomes are still low by international standards, people all over the countrydo not hesitate to donate whatever they can - be it money or goods - to helptheir needy fellow citizens. Furthermore, they do this with no thought of gainfor themselves.

It ismy view that the best way to show love is to help peoplewho are more unfortunate than we are. We should always be ready to give ahelping hand to those who are in trouble, no matter whether they are familymembers or complete strangers. Only by doing so can we help to make the world abetter place, for, as the picture shows, the darker the shadows of sorrowbecome, the more brightly the lamp of loveshines.
