　　Today, professors routinely treat the progressive interpretation of history and progressive public policy as the proper subject of study while portraying conservative or classical liberal ideas--such as free markets and self-reliance--as falling outside the boundaries of routine, and sometimes legitimate, intellectual investigation.

　　长难句解析：

　　Professors routinely treat A as B (认为A是B)

　　while 但是

　　Professors portray C as D (认为C是D)

　　A= the progressive interpretation of history and progressive public policy

　　B= the proper subject of study

　　C= the proper subject of study while portraying conservative or classical liberal ideas--such as free markets and self-reliance—

　　D= falling outside the boundaries of routine　intellectual investigation,

　　and sometimes falling outside the boundaries of legitimate　intellectual investigation.
